Adding in some extra nutrients to your meals can make a huge difference, and I’ve found the best foods to fight hair loss…
Our hair is made up from various proteins, so it’s important to make sure we’re getting enough from our diet. Luckily, eggs are full of it. Protein helps keep our hair strong and healthy, and can help prevent hair-fall and breakages.
Incorporating eggs into your diet is super easy – go for omelettes or pancakes for brekkie and add a boiled egg or two to your evening meal.
Again, a great source of protein, as well as healthy fats. Omega 3 is present in lots of oily fish, such as salmon and mackerel, which are also low in the bad kinds of fat. Your hair will benefit massively from this extra boost in protein and fatty acids.
Smoked salmon is easy to add to salads, sarnies and omelettes, and you can replace red meat in your evening meal with a fillet of tuna.
We all know that fruit is good for us, but citrus fruits do more than just help get rid of a cold! Vitamin C is present in most citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruits, and helps improve our overall health. They fight off infections, such as the common cold, and keep hair nice and strong.
Vitamins can often help improve our general health, as they aid the absorption of other nutrients and minerals. Anyone suffering from anaemia (iron deficiency) will notice an issue with dry and brittle hair. Vitamin C helps our bodies absorb and process iron more easily and effectively, so helps in more ways than one. The more vitamins and iron in your diet, the better the condition your hair will be in!
Speaking of minerals, zinc is also crucial to healthy hair. This is found in nuts, and helps prevent hair-fall. Nuts are also high in those Omega 3s mentioned above, which keep hair strong. The stronger your, the less likely it is to break and fall. It also makes it look and feel so much nicer! The oils present make your hair more ‘flexible’, essentially, which makes it less likely to snap or fall.
Nuts are so easy to add into your diet, add them to any salads or make a trail mix to keep yourself going throughout the day.
What list of healthy foods would be complete without leafy greens?! Green veggies are normally packed with vitamins, such as A and C, as well as iron. The darker the green veg, the higher its iron content. Veg such as spinach is so good for you – you get plenty of iron from it, and the Vitamin C ensures you absorb as much of it as possible, while also having its own benefits.
It can be hard to convince yourself to eat green veg, I know, but it’s so easy to sneak them into your diet! Mix kale into fresh juices, add spinach to salads or soups and snack on raw broccoli with hummus.
Sweet potatoes are not only delicious, but are crammed full of beta-carotene. If you’ve never heard of this, don’t worry – it gets converted to Vitamin A, which helps hair cells regenerate and grow strong. More Vitamin C and iron here as well, so stock up! Sweet potatoes are also packed with protein, which again keeps hair strong and acts as an antioxidant.
Sweet potatoes are lovely on their own, or you can bake them and fill them with salads and goodness. Sweet potato fries can also be super healthy – grill them with a little bit of coconut oil, rosemary and paprika!
I know I’ve already mentioned veg, but carrots get their own separate mention. These beauties are chock-a-block with beta-carotene. As we know by now, this is a great antioxidant and keeps your body and hair really healthy. Carrots are also high in Vitamin A, which helps prevent hair-fall. By incorporating carrots into your diet, you’re less likely to experience hair loss and split ends.
Add carrots to salads, stir-fries and eat them raw as a snack with a healthy dip. Steamed carrots are also a good option, as the body can absorb the beta-carotene more easily this way.

Whatever the reason for your hair loss, improving your diet can never be a bad thing. Adding in these healthy and tasty foods to your meals will improve your general wellbeing, and will help boost the strength and quality of your hair. They’ll also give your body plenty of other benefits and leave you feeling much better overall!
